Challenge.

Make Firefox’s values playful, shareable, and memorable.

Mozilla came to us with a simple request: amplify their global Open What You Want campaign by creating a Gen Z-coded moment around playfully punching up at Big Tech in a way only Firefox can.

Our challenge was to translate that point of view into a connected experience that sparked participation, rewarded curiosity, and made Firefox’s values something people could play with, share, and remember.

Solution.

We sent fake Billionaire's into actual space.

Firefox is the only major browser not owned or backed by a billionaire, which means they're uniquely positioned to stand with a restless generation who wishes for a way to take some power back.

Billionaires trade your data like it's money so they can fund their rocket trips into space. So we created long-form joke where we help them do just that, and wish them Bon Voyage for good.

This simple, hilarious concept spawned Billionaire Blast Off — a 4 month, multi-tier campaign activation that spanned digital, physical, multiple game launches, TwitchCon, GenAI and a very real space launch with very fake Billionaires on board.

The Zeitgeist

Interactive catharsis built for the people and the moment.

Billionaires are absurd, and absurd things are funny. The internet was already all-in on the joke—memes about sending billionaires to space, sitcoms highlighting the fragility of power and creators turning wealth-hoarders into edible confections.

The goal wasn’t to lecture Gen Z about privacy or browser choice, but to invite them into a new, shared act of rebellion and catharsis that turned Firefox's people-first values into something they could see, feel and play with.

Billionaire Blast Off reminded GenZ that there's a tech alternative to the absurdity of billionaire behavior, and invited them to be a part of it.

Billionaire Builder

I'm going to SPACE! Who's comin' with me??

We launched the campaign and microsite with the Build-a-Billionaire experience, where users could generate a Billionaire of their own to play with, control, and share. We started with real paid human artists, then used AI to scale an infinite number of possible creations. Each choice triggered logic matching traits to outfits, accessories, expressions, and rides before a robust GenAI pipeline spit out a completely unique, completely grotesque Billionaire, complete with name and backstory. From there, the Space Selfie generator created ridiculous vanity shots for easy sharing.

Data War comes home to the browser.

Data War comes home to the browser.

We extended Data War to a free-to-play browser-based game in just over a month, leaning into digital-first features like mini games, animation sequences, original music, and quick-hit play sequences. Using a blend of traditional and AI-enhanced workflows, the team adapted the physical game's chaos and humor into a solo and multiplayer experience anyone could access.

TwitchCon

Where the universe became real.

At TwitchCon 2025, Billionaire Blast Off took physical form. Our booth became a full-on hub where attendees built and launched their own billionaires through the holographic AR Holobox, played Data War for the first time in the wild, and engaged with creators in real time. The result was exactly the kind of chaotic, connected energy the campaign was built for: digital and physical blurring together into one ridiculous, joyful universe. The experience culminated at Saturday night’s Block Party, where we took over Rockin’ Baja Lobster for the campaign’s final act: a packed-room sendoff as our fake billionaires blasted into very real space.

Space Launch

Party at the launch tower.

The campaign's master stroke came to life with a partner specialized in sending things to actual outer space. We directed the crafting of a real mini-rocket, loaded it with our fake billionaires, filmed the voyage, and dropped the edit on YouTube Live — streamed from the Block Party and mirrored on the microsite. The crowd erupted as we counted down to launch and waved goodbye to the greedy little creations of a community refusing to play by Big Tech Billionaire rules.

Under the Hood

A True Brand Collaboration.

Our in-house game designers knew we had to treat Data War like a true game product that needed to be fun to play while bringing the brand to life in meaningful and immersive ways, despite a tight production timeline. We executed a robust game design process, printing prototypes, mapping probabilities, testing card types, balancing effects, adjusting conditions and rewriting rules in real time.

We also integrated with the Firefox product team to not only gather feedback, but develop ideas for building key brand values and features into the play mechanics and story, until we hit a perfect blend of chaos, clarity and communication. Then, we developed our own play simulator to root out and solve for hidden edge cases at scale.

The Billionaire Blast Off activations allowed us to authentically engage with our audience, especially at TwitchCon with the Data War card game. Mondo did a great job of embedding Firefox's values around privacy and choice into the game while also making something fun that thousands of TwitchCon attendees loved playing

This game needs to be spread out far and wide, it's not just entertainment, you're learning and using valuable skills...my excitement cannot be contained!

Kyle Prince, TwitchCon Attendee

TheBigBois team got hands-on with the game at the Firefox Booth on Saturday, where we quickly realized this satirical card game is far more than just a clever marketing stunt. It's a genuine blast, and it carried the energy of the event right back to our hotel and out to the Block Party.
